Delta Air Lines is one of Agnes Scott’s key corporate partners – a relationship that allows Agnes Scott College to provide distinctive and unique learning opportunities to equip today’s students – tomorrow’s workforce – with global perspectives and experiences critical for post-graduate success.
Global Citizenship Starts Day One
Agnes Scott’s mission is to educate women to think deeply, live honorably and engage the intellectual and social challenges of their times.
The Delta Air Lines Foundation awarded a transformational $1 million grant in 2022 to help fund Agnes Scott’s Global Journeys program: a week-long, faculty-led study of global issues in destinations around the world for all first-year students.
“Delta believes the mission of Agnes Scott College aligns well with our mission of connecting the world,” said Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines. “We believe in connecting people to people, people to place and people to potential. Like Agnes Scott, we embrace diverse thinking, innovation and creating change for good. We have so much appreciation for what Agnes Scott College is doing in education, and we’re big fans of the Global Journeys program.”
In spring 2023, first-year students traveled to 14 different sites on four continents. While global learning is not unique to Agnes Scott, an immersive travel experience is often delayed until junior or senior year and can be cost-prohibitive. Agnes Scott ensures this experience for the entire student body, which has had no majority ethnicity or race since 2010 and is made up of 58% students of color and 29% first-generation students.
“This generous grant from The Delta Air Lines Foundation is going to take our SUMMIT experience to even greater heights and allow us to continue providing our first-year students with life-changing experiences that will truly transform their minds, build confidence and position them to claim their places in our community, workplaces and world,” said Leocadia I. Zak, president of Agnes Scott College. “On behalf of the college, we are so grateful for supporters like Delta.”
Commitment to Innovation
Global Journeys is one of the many reasons that Agnes Scott has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the nation’s No. 1 most innovative college for five consecutive years. The college has also been ranked in the top ten for the past five years for social mobility by U.S. News & World Report.
